FCC Commissioner Deborah Taylor TateFederal Communications Commission (FCC) commissioner and UT alumna Deborah Taylor Tate will hold a campus town hall meeting on Monday, Oct. 13, to discuss the upcoming nationwide transition from analog to digital transmission of broadcast television signals.

This visit is part of an extensive initiative the commission has launched to increase awareness about the upcoming transition to digital television (DTV).

Tate’s discussion will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the University Center Shiloh Room, and is open to the public. Free parking for the event will be provided in the University Center parking garage.

The FCC identified target television markets for specific DTV outreach, including all those markets in which more than 100,000 households or at least 15 percent of the households rely solely on over-the-air signals for television reception. The five FCC commissioners and senior staff will visit these and other markets to raise awareness and educate consumers in the days leading up to the DTV transition on Feb. 17, 2009.
