KNOXVILLE — Through contributions to the Parents and Families Fund, the Parents Association at UT is offering scholarships for current students to provide the financial resources they need for successful academic and professional careers.

The application period for these scholarships is April 1-30. To be eligible for all scholarships, at least one of a student’s parents or guardians must be a current member of the Parents Association.

“The Parents Association is committed to recognizing students who contribute to making a positive difference on campus,” said Emily Parker, director of the Parents Association. “We are really excited to offer the leadership and service scholarships this year.”

A scholarship committee of staff and students will choose recipients through a competitive selection process.

Scholarships for $1,000 are available to students who have achieved excellence in one of the following areas — academic, service or leadership.

– Academic Scholarship — Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students and have completed 24 semester hours of coursework by May 2008. Current UT students and transfer students must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5.

– Leadership Scholarship -– Recipients must be sophomores, juniors or seniors. Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students, have completed 48 semester hours of coursework by May 2008 and have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0. Students must demonstrate leadership potential and established involvement in leadership activities while at UT.

– Service Scholarship -– Recipients must be sophomores, juniors or seniors. Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students and have completed 48 semester hours of coursework by May 2008. Applicants must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0. Students who wish to apply for the Service Scholarship must have demonstrated interest in service and established involvement in such activities at UT.

The scholarships will be distributed to students in 50-percent increments for the fall and spring semesters during financial aid disbursement.
