UT Police Department has issued an ‘all clear’ in the Humanities building and McClung Tower after evacuating the buildings earlier today in response to a suspicious telephone call.

Classes have now resumed as scheduled. UTPD requested assistance from the Knox County Sheriff’s Department and a KCSO team with bomb detecting dogs responded. Officers from the Knoxville Police Department also assisted.

After receiving the call at about 1:30 p.m., UTPD issued the evacuation order and several hundred students and staff members left the two buildings. Three UT ALERT text and e-mail messages were sent to update the campus community about the situation.

UTPD issued the evacuation out of an abundance of caution for the safety of students, faculty and staff in the area.
