In his new role as Associate to the Chancellor beginning Aug. 1, Woods will be charged with:

– launching the UT’s new Institute for a Secure and Sustainable Environment, which brings together university research expertise in a variety of areas under one central umbrella;

– managing the Science Alliance, an organization founded to promote and enhance scientific collaborations between UT and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Woods will work in place of Science Alliance Director Jesse Poore, who is on sabbatical;

– serving in a mentoring capacity for UT in its support of programs designed to increase the number of students attending UT from under-represented populations.

Crabtree said he will announce an interim vice chancellor as early as next week and will also name a search committee to conduct a national search for a new vice chancellor for research.
