KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee board of trustees will meet here Thursday, June 17, to approve a budget and consider transferring its Knoxville hospital to a not-for-profit corporation.
Beauchamp Brogan, board secretary and UT general counsel, said the board will meet twice on June 17. The first meeting, to consider the hospital transfer, is set for 7:30 a.m. in the Thompson-Boling arena C & D dining rooms.
The board’s annual meeting will convene at 9:30 a.m. in the board room,800 Andy Holt Tower. Eight board committees will meet Wednesday, June 16.
Brogan said the separate meeting to deal solely with the hospital transfer is being held because of the length of the regular agenda.
If approved by the board, operation of UT Memorial Research Center and Hospital would be transferred to University Health Systems Corp. UT would continue to own the hospital building and grounds.
The trustees also will consider creating with Battelle Memorial Institute a limited liability corporation to operate Oak Ridge National Laboratory. UT and Battelle announced earlier this year their intention to bid jointly for operation of the lab.
The board also will consider fee changes and new admission standards for UT-Knoxville, Brogan said.
