KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Cecil Hickman, former board member of Public Radio News Directors, Inc., has been appointed director of news and current affairs at WUOT-FM, the University of Tennessee’s public radio station here.

Hickman’s 20 years’ experience in radio includes serving as news director at public stations in Missouri, Iowa and Florida.

”Cecil Hickman brings a wealth of expertise to his new position at WUOT,” said Regina Dean, executive director of the station. ”He can draw on his experience working at some of the nation’s premiere public radio stations to provide news leadership for WUOT.”

Hickman’s broadcasting accomplishments include creation of two statewide news services, establishment of a state capitol bureau and numerous awards. He received the bachelor’s degree in political science at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Hickman’s appointment is effective Sept. 21. He is currently a member of the broadcast news faculty at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism.
