KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Kathryn Dee Robinson, a University of Tennessee-Knoxville graduate from Dayton, Tenn., has been nominated by President Clinton to be U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Ghana.

U.S. Department of State officials said Tuesday the nomination is pending Senate approval.

Ghana, with a population of approximately 17 million, is on the west coast of Africa.

Robinson graduated UT-Knoxville in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in history and a minor in French.

A career member of the U.S. foreign service, Robinson has been consul general at the U.S. embassy in Seoul, Korea, since 1995.

She also has served in Mumbai, India, and Guangzhou and Beijing, China
