KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Amy Michelle Brooks of New Tazewell and Joshua Eldridge of Tazewell have earned scholarships to the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

Brooks received the Shade and Dollie Pressnell Scholarship and Eldridge earned the Faye Pressnell Layne Scholarship.

Brooks is the daughter of Sue and Kenny Brooks and Nora and Joe Wolfenbarger. A cheerleader and president of the Future Homemakers of America at Claiborne County High School, Brooks plans to major in education.

Eldridge is the son of Willard and Rebecca Eldridge. At Claiborne High, he earned the U.S. Band Award and was a member of the Scholars Bowl and U.S. National Honor Roll. His major at UT will be in computer science and broadcasting.

Fayne Pressnell Layne grew up in Claiborne County and she did her practice teaching there. The scholarship, for deserving students of the county, was established in her memory by brothers and sisters. Other students currently receiving the award are Tammy England, Robert Chedester, Shawna Bussell and Crystal Bussell.

The Shade and Dollie Pressnell Scholarship was established by their children in honor of the life-long Claiborne residents. They were active Methodists and members of the Tennessee Farm Bureau. Other students currently receiving the scholarship are Billy Sams and Susan Rowe.
