KNOXVILLE, Tenn.–Departments in engineering and arts and sciences at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville have received $25,000 from the Exxon Foundation.

Joe Bales, UT-Knoxville assistant vice chancellor for corporate relations, said the gift will be shared by the College of Engineering’s chemical, mechanical and aerospace, electrical, and civil engineering departments, and the geological science department in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Bales said the gift is part of $1.6 million in departmental grants Exxon is contributing to about 90 colleges and universities. The UT gift will be used mostly for special programs and equipment, he said.

In April, the Exxon Foundation gave $3,000 to UT- Knoxville’s Minority Engineering Programs and $1,000 to the university’s Career Services department.

The College of Human Ecology at UT-Knoxville last month received $3.4 million in research equipment from Exxon Chemical Company.
