KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Coca-Cola Foundation has awarded the University of Tennessee’s College of Communications $50,000 to fund a scholarship program for gifted needy and minority students.

Dr. Dwight Teeter Jr., UT dean of communications, said the endowment each year will provide two $1,500 scholarships.

“We’ve discovered that about three-quarters of our students work at least one job, so the need is great in our college,” said Teeter.”Coca-Cola has really come to our rescue and we’re delighted.”

The Coca-Cola Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Coca-Cola Co., has made a $50 million decade-long commitment to advance excellence in education. The Foundation offers support to public and private colleges and universities; elementary and secondary schools; teacher training; and other educational programs.
