KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The chief designer of Florida’s Seaside resort will give the Robert Church Memorial Lecture Sept. 16 at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, dean of the school of architecture at the University of Miami, will speak at 5 p.m. in Clarence Brown Theatre. The lecture, which honors the former dean of UT-Knoxville’s school of architecture, is open to the public.

Plater-Zyberk, who designed Seaside in the 1980s while with the firm Duany Plater-Zyberk, will speak on design issues facing cities and city neighborhoods.

Seaside emphasizes public spaces, and its streets are designed for pedestrians rather than automobiles.
