KNOXVILLE, Tenn.– Dr. Tom Peters, management consultant and author, will present a day-long leadership program May 17 at the Knoxville Convention Center.

The University of Tennessee Management Development Center, sponsor of the program, is registering participants for the session, “Lessons in Leadership.” It will be based on Peters’ new book, “The Pursuit of WOW!: Every Person’s Guide To Topsy-Turvy Times.”

The book and his program contain practical advice on succeeding in today’s changing business world, said Tony Morreale, manager of the management center. Peters gained international attention for his first book, “In Search Of Excellence.”

Morreale said topics Peters will discuss include:

* Getting things done.

* Reinventing yourself daily.

* Realizing when following is leading.

* Defining the roles of projects, networks, knowledge management and people in the organization.

Peters says executives have no choice but to continuously retrain and refresh their skills.

“Old-fashion careers of the one-company-for-life variety are history,” he said, “and you can’t depend on your company to get you ready for the 21st century. We all have to get very serious about renewal. Not moving forward is falling back, fast.”

Peters founded the Tom Peters Group, three training and communications companies based in Palo Alto, Calif.

The Knoxville program will run from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., May 17. Tuition and registration information is available by calling 800-285-3451. Group discounts are being offered, Morreale said.
