KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee has the nation’s top textiles and clothing program, a University of Nebraska study shows.
The No. 1 ranking for UT-Knoxville’s College of Human Ecology appears in the current edition of the Clothing and Textiles Research Journal.
The survey assessed 183 textiles and clothing programs at U.S. colleges and universities and ranked them on the basis of number and quality of faculty, students, publications and other criteria.
UT did not finish No. 1 in any single category, but it had the highest overall composite score, the survey showed.
“We are proud to be recognized as the best among some really fine programs in this country,” said Dr. Jacquelyn DeJonge, UT-Knoxville dean of human ecology. “This honor helps us assess our programs so that they continue to meet the needs of students and industry.”
The top ten schools with the best programs, in order of their rankings, are: Tennessee, Cornell, Ohio State, Oregon State, Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Iowa State and Louisiana State.
UT-Knoxville’s College of Human Ecology offers 11 undergraduate degree programs through five departments, including a Department of Textiles, Retailing and Interior Design. The college has the world’s only on-campus, non-woven textile processing laboratory with melt-blown and spun-bond lines.
