KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The ways schools are affected by differences in social and moral values will be examined in a statewide series of public meetings sponsored by the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
Dr. Larry Ratner, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said topics include religion in schools, moral authority, family life, sexual expression and overcoming differences.
“These meetings give citizens an opportunity to consider different perspectives in a forum led by a member of our faculty who is a neutral moderator,” Ratner said.
“Our goal is to educate the public about policy issues so that they can make more informed decisions.”
All forums are set for 7-8:30 p.m. Dates and locations are:
* April 16, Kingsport Public Library, Broad Street.
* April 18, UT-Knoxville University Center auditorium.
* April 22, Oak Ridge Public Library, Oak Ridge Turnpike.
* April 22, Morristown-Hamblen Public Library, S. Main Street.
* April 23, Oneida Public Library, W. Main Street
* April 25, Stokely Memorial Library, E. Broadway, Newport.
* April 29, Art Circle Public Library, E. First Street, Crossville.
* April 29, Blount County Public Library, McGhee Street, Maryville.
The meetings will be moderated by UT-Knoxville faculty volunteers. Dr. James A. Black, a UT sociology professor, heads the public forums project.
