KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee’s master of accountancy program is 17th best in the nation, a national publication says.

The Aug. 15 issue of the Public Accounting Report also says UT-Knoxville’s master’s program is 12th best among public universities. The rankings are based on a survey of accounting educators.

Dr. Keith Stanga, head of accounting and business law, said the recognition is the result of hard work by the department’s faculty, students, staff, alumni and friends.

Stanga said such rankings are subjective, but “we’re always happy to see our programs receive favorable national recognition. We are especially pleased that our master of accountancy graduates of the past year have been placed in desirable professional positions.”

The accounting doctoral program has also been nationally recognized.

Studies in 1994 and 1995 place UT’s doctoral grads in the top 10 in the number of professional articles published.

“Our Ph.D. graduates are becoming leading accounting educators at some of the nation’s better universities. They are outstanding teacher-scholars and are a credit to the University of Tennessee.”
