KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A producer of television and video programs at the University of Tennessee has been appointed by Gov. Ned McWherter to help expand the state’s entertainment industry, it was announced Wednesday.

Thomas W. Owens was named to the advisory council of the Tennessee Film, Entertainment and Music Commission, chairman David Skepner said.

Owens, a senior writer-producer for the UT Center for Telecommunications and Video, came to UT-Knoxville in 1985. He has 16 years of writing and production experience in photography, cinema, video, multi-image slides and soundtracks.

The commission was established in 1987 to develop a

long-range program for enhancing the entertainment industry — including production of movies and television shows — in Tennessee. The group also recruits entertainment-industry companies into Tennessee.
