KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The work of a University of Tennessee artist will be featured in a new book on embroidery.

Richard Daehnert, who creates machine-stitched drawings on canvas, is among the artists whose works will appear in ”Celebrating the Stitch: Contemporary Embroidery of North America” by Barbara Lee Smith. Daehnert is an associate professor of art at UT-Knoxville and has been on the summer faculty of the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts since 1967.

His works featured in the book, to be released next month by Taunton Press, are titled ”Spatial Emergence I” and ”Pastoral Trilogy.”

Daehnert was one of six American stitch artists invited in 1989 to participate in an experimental computer stitching workshop in Germany. Works from the participating artists are on exhibit in Pittsburgh.
