On her first day as a volunteer at East Knoxville Free Medical Clinic, UT senior Avanti Rangnekar dusted off her high school Spanish skills to translate medical information for a Latino family.
This fall, students in Philosophy 256S—one of UT’s first Experience Learning designated courses—will put their classroom lessons to work as they partner with Knoxville-area organizations that work with marginalized populations.
Three short documentaries about local Vietnam veterans made by UT journalism students will be featured at Knoxville’s First Friday event and then air on East Tennessee PBS stations in conjunction with the broadcast of Ken Burns’s new epic documentary, The Vietnam War.

Twenty-five faculty members have been chosen as the first group of Experience Learning Faculty Fellows. They will receive grants to redesign courses to fit the requirements of Experience Learning. They will also participate in an Experience Learning Summer Institute from May 22 to June 30.
Faculty development grants are now available for faculty members who want to redesign courses to fit the guidelines and assessment processes of Experience Learning.
