With spring commencement ceremonies concluded, the pace is picking up on construction and road projects across campus.
Visible progress continues this spring on several construction and beautification projects, including the second phase of the Student Union and a new classroom and laboratory building.
In a ceremony on October 4 at the Student Union, Jim Duensing, chief financial officer of Caterpillar Financial Services, and Paul Shore, vice president of talent acquisition for Pilot Flying J, helped dedicate interview rooms named in honor of their respective companies within the university’s Center for Career Development.
Longtime University Center and Student Union Director Jim Dittrich passed away Thursday, October 26, after a courageous battle with cancer. He served the university for 29 years before retiring in early 2017 due to declining health. He is remembered by many UT staff, faculty, and students for his dedication and his love for the university
UT’s innovative Strong Hall, the university’s first general classroom and lab building in many years, is among several new additions and upgrades awaiting the campus community for the new academic year. The building opened for summer classes in June.
The Student Union will close from 7 a.m. Monday, May 15, through 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, as part of the construction work on Phase 2 of the building.
On Friday, the university celebrated the midpoint of the largest building project in its history. More than thirty people lined up to cut the ceremonial orange ribbon, which spanned the width of UT’s new pedestrian bridge, at the dedication of the new Student Union.
