Want to find the ghosts on campus? Want to exercise certain muscles in your body? Want safety tips for walking alone at night? There will soon be apps for that, thanks to UT students participating this weekend in a worldwide event called the ARIS Global Game Jam 2015.
Yuji Hiratsuka, professor of art at Oregon State University in Corvallis, will speak at UT’s College of Architecture and Design at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 17. Hiratsuka will present a lecture about his printmaking work in Room 109 of the Art and Architecture Building.
Independent Magazine has highlighted the work of UT professors and filmmakers Ashley Maynor and Paul Harrill. The duo recently debuted a web documentary, The Story of Stuff, about grief and mourning. Read the story here. Maynor is a UT digital humanities librarian. Harrill is an associate professor in the School of Art.
After being accepted into College Scholars, John McAmis, UT’s sole animation major, developed his curriculum, composed of independent courses where he makes his own syllabus. His advisor, associate professor of art and local filmmaker Paul Harrill, looks over the syllabus and approves McAmis’s schedule.
UT will host more than 1,500 printmakers from around the world for the Southern Graphics Council International Printmaking Conference March 18–21. The conference will be held at the Knoxville Convention Center and around campus.

Seventy years have passed since the liberation of prisoners held at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in Poland. More than a million people were killed there between 1940 and 1945, when Soviet troops liberated the camp. UT has loaned its historic Greenwood Mural to the Knoxville Museum of Art. The News Sentinel recently featured the news in this article. The painting is the work of celebrated muralist Marion Greenwood. She painted it while she was a visiting professor at UT from 1954 to 1955.

A historic mural that has survived controversy, vandalism, and an impending demolition of its longtime home is being featured in an exhibit that opened June 6 at UT’s Downtown Gallery. The History of Tennessee painting—also known as the Greenwood Mural—is on display along with eighteen other works by celebrated muralist Marion Greenwood. Several media outlets
