The College of Business Administration ranks first worldwide in research productivity in the area of supply chain management and logistics. The ranking appears in the “International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management” and covers the 2008 to 2010 timeframe.
Faculty in the College of Business Administration are on the cutting edge of supply chain research and have several books in the works that demonstrate their expertise. They closed out 2011 with two published books, with another five to be printed this year.
The recruitment and development of talented supply chain managers is key to creating a long-term competitive advantage, according to the Global Supply Chain Institute advisory board. Senior supply chain executives from twenty-one leading global companies recently met in Atlanta for the board’s first face-to-face meeting to discuss key supply chain issues.
The Global Supply Chain Institute at UT Knoxville welcomes four more international organizations as sponsors of its Supply Chain Forum. GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), the Tennessee Valley Authority, Penske, and FreightWatch International recently joined the initiative. In 2011 alone, the forum welcomed fifteen new members. GSK is the forum’s first new sponsor in 2012.
The UT Knoxville Global Supply Chain Institute welcomes Pilot Flying J as the 48th sponsor of its Supply Chain Forum. With more than 150 executives, representing forty-eight companies, currently sponsoring the forum, it is the largest supply chain forum in the academic world.
The Global Supply Chain Institute at UT Knoxville’s College of Business Administration co-founded with the ESSEC Business School a groundbreaking event in the European Union supply chain community. In June the two groups hosted Europe’s first Global Supply Chain Forum for supply chain executives and academics in Paris, France.

Paul Dittmann, executive director of the Global Supply Chain Institute at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, College of Business Administration, was one of fifteen individuals honored as an industry “Rainmaker” by DC Velocity, a leading magazine that caters to logistics managers and executives.
A team of four University of Tennessee, Knoxville, undergraduate students recently won the Third Annual IANA Logistics & Supply Chain Management Case Competition at the University of North Florida. This was the second time UT Knoxville participated in the competition.
