Headshot of Dan Harris

Bestselling author and award-winning journalist Dan Harris will deliver the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s 11th annual Mossman Distinguished Lecture at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sep. 23, in the Student Union Auditorium. In addition to over 20 years in television journalism, Harris brings his unique perspective on meditation, anxiety and work-life balance. The lecture is free and open to the public, but reservations are recommended.

Harris spent two decades as an anchor and correspondent for ABC News, hosting “Nightline” and weekend editions of “Good Morning America.” He also spent time covering wars in Afghanistan and Iran and producing investigative reports in Cambodia, Haiti and the Amazon. Following his extensive journalism career and a personal discovery of meditation, Harris wrote and published his bestselling book “10% Happier” in 2014, followed by the 10% Happier podcast and the 10% with Dan Harris meditation app.

Harris has won six Emmy Awards throughout his career and received an Edward R. Murrow award in 2008. His book 10% Happier was named a #1 New York Times bestseller.

Launched in 2015, the Mossman Distinguished Lecture Series highlights the diverse knowledge and expertise of select influential figures. It was made possible by an estate gift from Ken and Blaire Mossman, who met while attending UT in 1968.

In 2018, UT dedicated the Ken and Blair Mossman Building in honor and recognition of the Mossmans’ contributions to the university. The building houses collaborative research, laboratory space and advanced resources for a variety of studies.

A book signing will follow the lecture.
