University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Chancellor Donde Plowman has been appointed to the Executive Committee of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities’ Board of Directors. Her one-year term as secretary of the APLU Council of Presidents began July 1.
“We’re thrilled to announce Donde Plowman as the secretary of the APLU Council of Presidents and a member of our board’s Executive Committee,” said APLU President Waded Cruzado. “She is an exceptional public university leader with deep experience, and we’re thrilled to have her leadership on our board.”
As APLU’s governing and ultimate policymaking body, the board provides oversight and direction for the association’s work. Board members strive to ensure that public higher education institutions deliver high-quality affordable education while fostering innovative research and actively contributing to community and economic development.
“I’m grateful and honored to be part of this group of smart, thoughtful leaders,” Plowman said. “Public and land-grant universities exist for our students and our communities. I look forward to working with my colleagues to move our land-grant universities forward.”
Cultivating world-class research and advancing community prosperity are central to Plowman’s strategic vision of UT as a modern land-grant university serving the people of Tennessee. At the UT Board of Trustees’ annual meeting on June 30, she spoke about the need to invest strategically in research areas that align with both state and national priorities, such as nuclear energy and advanced materials.
