The University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Division of Student Life and Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs are partnering with the Division of Access and Engagement for Listen. Learn. Lead. Week, March 3-7. Held each fall and spring semester, the week encourages faculty, staff and students to understand different perspectives, learn from the experiences of others and lead with courage.
The week will offer a variety of events:
Bridging the Gap
Tuesday, March 4, noon to 1:30 p.m., Frieson Black Cultural Center Multipurpose Room
Bridging the Gap is an interactive workshop that invites participants to consider their motivations for engaging in bridge-building conversations across deep divides. Faculty, staff and students will engage with one another and explore connections between bridge-building and their worldview, values and actions. Advance registration is required.
Pack to Give Back
Thursday, March 6, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Student Union Room 270
Hosted annually by the Office of the Dean of Students, Pack to Give Back engages faculty, staff and students in a day of service to support the campus community. This year’s event will focus on packing hygiene, wellness and care kits for resource departments on campus.
‘Our Shared Values’ Information and Book Display
Throughout the week, Hodges Library
UT Libraries will feature “Our Shared Values,” a special information and book display that highlights how common values may help overcome polarization between the United States’ two primary political parties.
Listen. Learn. Lead. Week was established to honor the example of Tennessee native Howard H. Baker Jr., who served as a senator from 1967 to 1985 and was known as “the great conciliator.” See a full list of events on the Division of Access and Engagement website.
