Thanks to the generosity of many Volunteers, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has surpassed another campaign milestone with more than 100,000 unique donors giving to the Join the Journey campaign since 2012. Alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends have joined together to make a significant impact at UT and have chosen to support many areas of campus.
More than $1.17 billion has been received from the 100,000 donors, which include Volunteers from all 50 states and from 49 countries. The campaign goal of $1.1 billion was surpassed in late 2018, more than two years before the initial goal of December 2020.
“We are incredibly grateful for all of the donors who choose to support our great university,” said Chip Bryant, vice chancellor for advancement. “When our alumni and friends make one gift, of any size, each year, it makes a big difference. Their loyalty and support create opportunities for students and will have a lifelong effect on our campus.”
The impact of the philanthropic support has been felt by students and faculty alike through new scholarships and faculty awards, including 812 undergraduate scholarship awards, 293 graduate fellowships and scholarships, and 154 faculty awards, professorships, and chairs.
“I want to thank every single donor that has given to the university,” said UT senior Makayla Stogsdill. “You are actually changing a life. The impact that you make might not be something that you see right now, but it is something that assists students every single day.”
While two major campaign goals have already been met, the journey is not over. The campaign continues through 2020, with areas of need that include strengthening capacity for faculty who strive for excellence, scholarships that provide access to unique experiences, and graduate fellowships that propel students forward in creative research.
