The campus community gathered last week to celebrate the grand opening of the Student Union with a day full of events.

The day started with breakfast and coffee, an art class led by “Professor Smokey,” and a CarniVOL on the plaza, complete with games, rides, and everyone’s favorite midway treats.

In the afternoon, musicians performed in the art gallery which hosted an exhibit of historical images of the University Center and the Ellis and Ernest Drugstore. Visitors were able to visit many of the offices and event spaces in the building throughout the day. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony capped the day’s activities.

Into the evening, visitors got a “Taste of Tennessee,” a showcase of samples from Aramark’s catering menu. A trivia session got everyone’s competitive spirit flowing as cash and prizes were awarded to the champions.

To top the night, visitors watched fireworks from the plaza and visited vendors at the 865 Night Market.
