The VolCard Office is streamlining the information stored in ID cards issued to students. All new employees and students receive an identification number known as a TnID, which is used by UT’s IRIS and Banner information systems. Employee ID cards have the TnID number encoded in the magnetic strip on the back of the card.

However, until recently, students who were not also UT employees had their student ID number, a separate number from their TnID, encoded in the strip. This caused problems in data collection. Student VolCards now have their TnID number encoded in the back and their Student ID number printed on the card. For more information on the switch, contact the VolCard Office at 865-974-3430.
