Project Global Officer (Project GO) is a US Department of Defense initiative aimed at improving the language skills, regional expertise, and intercultural communication skills of future military officers.

Carney-Nedelman, of Erwin, Tennessee, will study Indonesian at Arizona State University for eight weeks and travel to Denpasar, Indonesia, for four more weeks of intensive language and culture study.

“I’m so excited about this opportunity because of my interest in Asian culture,” said Carney-Nedelman, who is only the second UT student to receive a Project GO award since the program’s inception in 2007. “Additionally, learning Indonesian will be very beneficial in my future career as an Air Force officer, through the cultural awareness and language experience I will gain.”
