What does tenure mean to UT faculty? Tenure means protection for faculty to do their job, according to UT history professor Monica Black in a recent letter to the News Sentinel editor.

“To ask questions about our laws and institutions, the origins of human life on earth, the functioning of our economy: the answers to these can be troubling. Faculty need protection to pursue them,” said Black.
