Mark Smith, the director of Environmental Health and Safety, will retire from UT on April 6 after 30 years of service to the university. Smith first began working in EHS in 1981 as a safety engineer. In 2007 he was promoted to director.
April Case, a team leader in EHS, has been named the interim director. A national search for the permanent director will begin soon.
EHS works with every academic and administrative unit on campus to ensure and promote the safety of students, employees, and visitors. The director provides leadership and direction in the planning, development, budgeting, implementation, and evaluation of campus-wide safety programs.
