In its fifth year, UT’s Big Orange Family Campaign took an unexpected leap, increasing participation by 7 percent to reach 59 percent of faculty and staff members giving to UT.

That participation figure is 5 percent above the ambitious goal of 54 percent set by the campaign committee and represents a record number of faculty and staff donors to the university.

“I am so appreciative of the support of our faculty and staff,” said Chancellor Beverly Davenport. “They exemplify the Volunteer difference with their generosity and make a positive impact on the lives of our current and future students.”

Donors can designate their gifts to any college, department, program, scholarship, or established gift fund they choose.

Some of the largest participation growth in the campaign was by Facilities Services employees. Their overall giving rate jumped to more than 52 percent.

Thirty-five departments and units had 100 percent participation (see list below). Another 16 departments and units had over 90 percent participation.

“The campaign committee thought 54 percent was a stretch goal, but the campus community crushed that goal. It was thrilling to see the outpouring of support for our institution,” said Lauren Herbstritt, director of new media fundraising. “I am so honored to work with more than 160 volunteers who made this campaign a success.”

The campaign was supported with a short video, Better Together, showing the strength of the campus community.
