Leticia Flores, associate professor of psychology and director of the UT Psychological Clinic, spoke to WVLT-TV Local 8 Now about how sports generates various emotions in fans. An unstable season in particular can cause stress and some fans can experience symptoms of depression.
“I think sports brings out a whole range of emotions for people,” she said. “So when your team is doing great, you’re on top of the world, you’re ecstatic. When your team is doing poorly, or you lose an important game, I definitely think people get into a funk.”
