When it comes to studying abroad, it’s easy to get swept up in what’s trending. If you’re looking for something a little our of the ordinary, check out these destinations.
CUBA

- Fun fact: Cuba’s nickname is El Caiman or El Cocodrilo (alligator) because from an aerial view, the island resembles the animal.
CZECH REPUBLIC

- Fun fact: The country is almost completely surrounded by mountains and holds the Guinness Book of World Record for the largest ancient castle in the world, Prague Castle.
THAILAND

- Fun fact: You can find the Golden Buddha, a gold statue weighing 5.5 tons (11,000 lbs) and worth approximately 250 million dollars and the reclining Buddha of Wat Pho, which measures 150 feet long and just happens to also be covered in gold, in this country.
NEW ZEALAND

- Fun fact: New Zealand is known for its adventurous activities and with about one-third of the country protected as national park, it is clear to see why.
SOUTH AFRICA

- Fun fact: South Africa has 11 official languages and most South Africans speak at least three with English usually being one of them.
If any of these places catch your eye, make sure to stop by the Center for International Education’s fall 2017 Study Abroad Fair on Pedestrian Walkway from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 11. If inclement weather occurs, the fair will be held in Thompson-Boling Arena.
Students, faculty and staff will be able to apply for a passport in person. Attendees will also be able to enter to win a free Dell Inspiron 11 laptop.
If you are unable to attend the fair, feel free to stop by the Center for International Education and the Programs Abroad Office, located in Melrose Hall, Monday through Friday from 11 am to 5 pm and speak with a peer advisor, current students who have studied abroad themselves, or a programs abroad coordinator.
