The Office of New Student and Family Programs has been hard at work preparing to welcome nearly 5,000 members of the class of 2021 and all new transfer students for the The New Vols Experience: Summer Orientation. The first session begins on May 30.
Thirteen two-day first-year student sessions and seven one-day transfer student sessions will run from the end of May to July. Thirty-nine orientation leaders will meet new students, parents, and other family members.
The two-day orientation schedule allows more time for students in their academic college on both days as well as additional time to meet other new students on the first day. Students will get a glimpse of everything the university has to offer, from academic resources and student engagement opportunities to Volunteer traditions.
During orientation sessions, students will stay in Brown Residence Hall and have the opportunity to enjoy campus highlights, like the Student Union, Stokely Fresh Food Company and Neyland Stadium.
Parents and guests will interact with top-level administration, tour campus, and learn about supporting their student at UT, whether they are close by or live in a different state.
Faculty and staff may notice more traffic in the mornings on Neyland Drive and near the G-10 garage as students and their families make their way to the Student Union and Alumni Memorial Building for sessions. The Office of New Student and Family Programs encourages you to engage with visiting families, who will have orange lanyards and tote bags, as it is truly a campus effort to welcome our new students and their families.
The Office of New Student and Family Programs oversees all orientation and transition programs for new students and their families, including transfer and adult student orientations throughout the year, Welcome Week activities at the beginning of each semester and Family Weekend events. The office also provides services and information to parents and families through the Parents Association.
