UT’s College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences is kicking off a $40 million fundraising effort as part of UT’s Investing in the Journey to the Top 25 campaign.

The college is celebrating the public phase of the campaign, which has raised $33 million to date, at tonight’s annual Educators Hall of Honor induction ceremony.

“The College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences prepares future teachers, public health experts, nutritionists, and exercise scientists to make a significant impact on the lives of others,” said Chancellor Beverly Davenport. “Students who earn their degree from the college are prepared to make immediate contributions to our society. Additional resources will enhance the instruction and the important research in these vital fields.”

The college has identified four strategic areas within the campaign—faculty support, graduate fellowships, undergraduate merit- and need-based scholarships, and college-wide areas of impact to support individual departments with unrestricted gifts.

The campaign also will benefit the college’s nationally recognized programs that rely on private support, such as the Center for Sport, Peace, and Society; University-Assisted Community Schools; the VolsTeach STEM program; the Center for Educational Leadership; the Korn Learning, Assessment, and Social Skills Center; and the FUTURE program.

“The College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences enhances lives through research, outreach, and practice,” said Bob Rider, dean of the college. “Our students embody why disabilities don’t define people, how a child is given a voice and learns to read, how educational leaders are forged, and how families and communities can thrive.”

The college’s Graduate School of Education was recently named the David T. Bailey Graduate School of Education in honor of a longtime supporter of the college and university.

“With the generosity of our alumni and friends, we’ll continue to develop leaders in and out of the classroom and equip them with the skills and knowledge to have a positive impact in their community and around the world,” said Rider.

The College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences is now one of six UT colleges to launch a multiyear capital campaign.
