Eight residential rooms at Volunteer Hall have been evacuated and will remain closed until they can be cleaned and repaired following a sewage leak Wednesday afternoon.

The leak also forced the temporary closure of the building’s garage. The garage was repaired and available by this morning.

In an unrelated issue, a water pipe in the construction area outside Hodges Library at the corner of the Pedestrian Plaza ruptured, flooding the intersection and a portion of Volunteer Boulevard.

After shutting off the source, crews temporarily blocked traffic on the road between Peyton Manning Pass and Melrose Avenue while the water drained.

To control the flow to the pipe, water was temporarily cut off to Stokely Management Center, Haslam Business Building, and Dunford Hall, but was restored after the break was isolated.
