Bradley Hininger, UT graduate student of geography, recently wrote a column featured in the Tennessean that explains the reasoning behind students’ protest of the recent election.

In response to criticism that UT students are unaware and spoiled with too much time on their hands, Hininger states that students do have too much time. “Too much time left on this earth and too much to lose to tolerate a president who does not represent the entire population of the United States,” he wrote.

Hininger reiterates that it’s important to advocate for minorities and members of the LGBT community. The legislature has taken many measures to prove they do not value inclusion, despite university efforts to provide a campus environment that is welcoming to all, he said.
