UT’s Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy will host a panel discussion, “Understanding the First Amendment on Campus,” from 1:15 to 2:45 p.m. Monday, February 27.
The discussion will be moderated by Jeffrey Rosen, president and CEO of the National Constitution Center. The center is the first and only institution in America established by Congress to disseminate information about the United States Constitution on a nonpartisan basis in order to increase the awareness and understanding of the Constitution.
Rosen will open the discussion with a 20-minute overview of the First Amendment followed by a 50-minute panel discussion and then 20 minutes for audience Q&A.
Panelists for the event include:
- David Reidy, professor of philosophy in the College of Arts and Sciences
- Bonnie Ownley, UT Faculty Senate president and professor of entomology and plant pathology in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources
- Barry Hawkins, senior in sociology
- Brittany Moore, president of UT’s Black Law Students Association
- Cynthia Polk-Johnson, associate dean of students
The event is free and open to the public. It will be recorded and posted online for later viewing.
