During his campaign for the presidency, Donald Trump cast himself as an outsider who promised to shake up the political establishment and return power to the people–much like president Andrew Jackson.
The similarities stop there, said Daniel Feller, professor of history and editor of The Papers of Andrew Jackson, a UT project dedicated to transcribing and publishing the president’s entire written record.
In an interview with USA Today, Feller noted that there are no similarities between Trump and Jackson when it comes to the men’s background, character, temperament, or presidential policy.
“I’m kind of astonished by it,” Feller said of the Trump-as-Jackson trending narrative. “I see virtually no resemblance between Jackson and Trump.”
