Today posters appeared on our campus that use inflammatory and divisive language and images about one of our registered student organizations, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and its members.
The university objects to the content of the posters and rejects any attempt to promote division and foster hatred among our student body. Such attempts run counter to the Volunteer Spirit and our community’s commitment to free and open dialogue, which is a basic element of our educational mission.
Over the past several months, our dean of students has been actively engaged in conversations with student leaders and advisors of SJP, the Muslim Student Association, and Hillel. Despite claims made about our campus by outside groups, these three student organizations are in solidarity with each other in disagreeing with assertions that our campus climate is inhospitable.
The safety and well-being of our students is our number one concern. If you are ever threatened or in danger, call 911. If you ever feel harassed, intimidated, or discriminated against, please report the incident to the Bias Education and Response Team.
