The implementation plan for Vol Vision 2020, the refreshed version of UT Knoxville’s strategic plan, has been approved by the Board of Trustees.

The strategic plan is a roadmap for the campus’s continuing journey to become a top-tier public research university. It focuses on six priority areas: undergraduate education; graduate education; research, scholarship, creative activity, and engagement; faculty and staff; resources and infrastructure; and diversity and inclusion.

In February, the Board of Trustees approved Vol Vision 2020 as the framework for the next phase of our strategic plan. They requested that an implementation plan be developed and presented for approval.

On Thursday, Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek outlined the implementation plan, which details specific initiatives needed to achieve the goals in each priority area. It also includes progress timelines and assigns cabinet-level leaders for each of the initiatives.

As work continues, teams responsible for implementation will continue to engage campus stakeholders for feedback. Regular progress reports will be provided for the campus community.

Vicky B. Gregg, who chairs the board’s Academic Affairs and Student Success Committee, commended the thoroughness of the implementation plan and said it would be an invaluable resource for the campus’s next chancellor.
