Dwayne Savage, who served as professor and head of the Department of Microbiology, passed away May 17. He was 81.
Savage joined the UT faculty in 1988. A distinguished intestinal microbiologist, he dedicated his career to physiological and molecular-based systematic studies of the commensal microbiota. He was considered one of the most prominent and instrumental global experts in the field. He retired from UT in 2002.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Norma Jean Bradley Savage; sons, Marco Savage and Clark Savage, and their spouses; grandson Nicholas Savage and granddaughter Rebecca Savage; brothers Derrell Savage and Ron Savage, one sister, Donna Savage; and other relatives.
