Thirty students have been selected to participate in the 2016 Summer Undergraduate Research Internship Program (SURIP). The program, administered by the Office of Undergraduate Research, pairs an undergraduate student with a faculty mentor to conduct research during the summer.

Students were required to submit a research proposal which was judged by a panel of faculty members from their college. Once selected, recipients may choose to conduct their research at either UT Knoxville or another national or international research organization.

Since 2008, over 500 students have been funded through the program to conduct summer undergraduate research under the direction of a UT faculty mentor.

Funding for the program is provided by the Office of the Chancellor, Office of Research and Engagement, Honors and Scholars Program, and College of Nursing.
