Construction on campus and the City of Knoxville’s upgrades to Cumberland Avenue will bring about road closures and traffic signal upgrades that begin over Spring Break.

Lake Loudoun Boulevard and Volunteer Boulevard Traffic Signal Upgrade

A traffic signal upgrade project will take place at the intersection of Lake Loudoun Boulevard and Volunteer Boulevard during the week of Spring Break, Monday, March 14 through Friday, March 18.

The upgrade, part of an overall campus beautification project, will include installing more attractive signals by replacing the current overhead wire system with a pole and mast system, similar to the signals at Lake Loudoun and Philip Fulmer Way.

No full road closures will be necessary during this project; but traffic may be diverted to different lanes at various phases of construction. Look for signage on these roads throughout the project. Construction is expected to take place during and after business hours each day.

Phillip Fulmer Way Closure for Student Union Construction

Philip Fulmer Way will close from Cumberland Avenue to the Student Union alley from 6:00 a.m. Monday, March 14, until 5:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, for the installation of the tubes that will run fiber optics to the building. Dock access will remain open.

Portion of Caledonia Avenue to Change to One Way

A portion of Caledonia Avenue, which runs behind Reese Hall, will be closed on Monday, March 14, and Tuesday, March 15. Then, that section will become a one-way street until the work on the north side of the first residence hall in the West Campus redevelopment is completed. Crews will install three temporary traffic signals on the east and west ends of the one-way portion as well as a third signal at the entrance of a parking lot in the same area. The one-way street will be in effect until the fall 2016 semester.

City of Knoxville Cumberland Avenue Project Intersection Closure

Cumberland Avenue will be completely closed at the intersection with Seventeenth Street from 5:00 a.m. Saturday, March 12, to 6:00 a.m. Monday, March 14, for utility work. One lane of Seventeenth Street will be closed during Spring Break, March 14–18.
