After thirty-nine years at UT, David Northington gave his final concert as a faculty member Sunday, March 6. The Knoxville News Sentinel featured Northington’s last concert prior to the event.

Northingon is a professor in the School of Music and has performed at some of the most prestigious concert venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall. A review in the New York Times called him “an immensely gifted musician – who combines the technical mastery of a virtuoso with the musical sensitivity of a poet.”

He decided to retire because arthritis in his right hand is beginning to affect his playing and he has always been determined to be an inspiration to his students both as a teacher and a player. The arthritis has somewhat compromised his ability in the latter.
