January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, and UT’s Center for Health Education and Wellness is partnering with the College of Nursing, the Knox County Health Department, and UT Medical Center to present the award-winning documentary Someone You Love: The HPV Epidemic at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, in the Lindsay Young Auditorium at John C. Hodges Library.

Someone You Love

The event is free and features guest speakers Kristopher Kimball from UT Medical Center’s Gynecologic Oncology Department and Anita Blatnik, women’s health nurse practitioner in UT’s Student Health Clinic.

Someone You Love: The HPV Epidemic follows the lives of five women affected by HPV, the virus that is responsible for almost all cases of cervical cancer. HPV continues to be a misunderstood virus, with many individuals unaware of the risks, the vaccine or the other cancers HPV can cause.

This event provides students, staff, and faculty the opportunity to have their questions answered by medical professionals and learn the facts about HPV and HPV-related cancers, risk reduction, and the vaccine.

Continuing education credits are available for doctors, nurses, and pharmacists. To register for continuing education credits, contact judith.roitman@knoxcounty.org.
