Artificial intelligence is the specialty of Osaro, a tech startup headquartered in California that was recently profiled by Venturebeat.
Co-founded by Associate Professor Itamar Arel, of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Osaro is specifically focused on deep learning, the ability for machines to make decisions on their own. Arel is also director of the Machine Intelligence Lab at UT.
According to the article, for example, the idea is that a robot could be presented with particular data—such as photos—and be able to infer and make its own decisions based off of them.
Such robots could be particularly helpful in any situation that would be dangerous for humans, such as search and rescue operations.
