Three candidates seeking to become director of the Experience Learning initiative will visit campus in early December. Each will make a public presentation for the campus community while they are here.

Developed as part of our Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges reaccreditation process, Experience Learning is rooted in the pedagogical concept of experiential learning. Its goals are to increase knowledge, acquire lifelong learning and problem-solving skills, and elucidate values.

Experience Learning is infusing student learning with opportunities to engage in civic activities, solve complex real-world problems, and contribute to the welfare of their communities as part of their regular course work. It encompasses a wide range of activities, including service-learning, engaged classroom-based learning, study abroad, undergraduate research, diversity programs, and related opportunities. Intense reflection is also part of the learning cycle.

Working closely with Matthew Theriot, associate provost for teaching and learning innovation, the Experience Learning director will provide leadership to the program, manage and allocate the program budget, coordinate program services, and assist with the development, implementation, assessment, and execution of the program initiatives.

During their campus visits, each candidate will make a public presentation followed by a question-and-answer session. The campus community is encouraged to attend and provide feedback about candidate.

The presentations will be held in the Lindsay Young Auditorium in Hodges Library:
