USA Today interviewed Joshua Inwood for this story examining how protests over racism at a Midwestern university is a wake-up call for campuses nationwide and signals a new sense of racial consciousness.
Inwood said he’s noticed that UT students have been highly impacted by the Black Lives Matter movement. “There’s been a level of political activism and protesting that I have not seen in my 10 to 12 years here,” he said, adding that social media has helped activists on individual campuses share their messages and garner support.
Inwood is an associate professor of geography with a joint appointment in the Africana Studies Program.
