Yahoo! News recently sat down with Tarun Mehta to profile his idea to bring eco-friendly transportation to India.
As part of that plan, which Yahoo! described as being “Tesla-like” in its approach, Mehta realized that people wouldn’t necessarily be willing to buy vehicles for the sake of being eco-friendly, but only because of other enticements such as price, fuel savings, and design.
The article points out that a number of Asian countries like India are turning to two-wheeled transportation, citing UT Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering Chris Cherry’s studies.
Cherry commented that one of the reasons China in particular has such a head start on the devices is that the country had a long history of bicycle travel, making the transition to scooters and e-bikes much smoother.
